‘Sneakerella’ gives us Devyn Nekoda’s Cinderella Story

Canada’s own Devyn Nekoda is one to watch! Her latest role is in the new Disney+ family film Sneakerella, where she puts all of her talents on display.

Sneakerella is set in the avant-garde street-sneaker subculture of New York City and filmed in Ontario, the film is a high-energy, music driven movie that puts a contemporary twist on the “Cinderella” fairy tale.

El (Chosen Jacobs) is an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works as a stock boy in the shoe store that once belonged to his late mother. He hides his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two meanspirited stepbrothers who constantly thwart any opportunity that comes his way.

When El meets Kira King, the fiercely independent daughter of legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King, sparks fly as the two bond over their mutual affinity for sneakers.
With a little nudge from his best friend Sami (Devyn Nekoda) and a sprinkle of Fairy Godfather magic, El finds the courage to use his talent to pursue his dream of becoming a ‘legit’ sneaker designer in the industry. El is now ready to lace up and dream big.

Devyn who started dancing when she was 2 years old has not stopped since! The singer, actress, and dancer has warmed her way into the hearts of fans starring in several projects.
Known best for her role as Sage on the revolutionary sci-fi hip hop series Utopia Falls (Hulu), Devyn Nekoda is watching her star rise fast in the industry. No stranger to leading roles, Devyn joined the “promising young cast” (Hollywood Reporter) of Utopia Falls after two seasons as Vanessa on Backstage (Family Channel/Disney/Netflix).

Prior to that, she amassed co-starring appearances on Ghostwriter and Northern Rescue along with recurring roles on Degrassi, The Next Step, and Annedroids, as well as Raising Expectations with Jason Priestley and Molly Ringwald.

Our Bonnie Laufer spoke with Devyn via ZOOM to talk about working on Sneakerella and putting her triple threat talents to work!
