Time to get out some Kleenex! The latest offering from Dakota Johnson and Jason Segel is a full blown tear jerker.

Our Friend is based on real life events and the Esquire article “The Friend: Love is Not a Big Enough Word” by Matt Teague. It follows Dakota Johnson who plays Nicole, a wife and mother of two, who gets a diagnosis for terminal cancer. Her husband (Casey Affleck) does his best to maintain their life and love but the diagnosis overwhelms him. He deals with responsibilities and new feelings at the prospect of losing her.

His best friend played by Jason Segel moves in with them to lighten the load as her strength fails. The friendship knows no bounds as Segel’s character devotes is entire life to helping out the people who he loves more than life itself. It’s an eye opening story of how far a friend will go to there for you when the chips are down.

Dakota Johnson was a recent guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. And the actress revealed she suffered a panic attack while filming “Our Friend.”

Johnson told Fallon that she often suffers from some stage fright. Time came to film her first singing scene but she completely froze when the cameras starting rolling. As soon as the director shouted action for her to start the scene she literally panicked. It caused her to run from the cameras and around the community theater where filming was taking place

“Singing in front of people is actually so terrifying for me,” she admitted to Fallon, “and we had to shoot the scene where you don’t even really see me.”

Our Friend is available on VOD Friday January 22nd.
