TIFF 2024: Our Review of ‘The Salt Path’

If you lost your home, your source of income, and found out your significant other has a terminal disease, what would you do? For Ray (Gillian Anderson) and Moth (Jason Isaacs) the answer is as simple as going for a walk. A really long walk along the coast of England. Based on the best selling memoir by Raynor Winn, The Salt Path is an emotional drama that drags a little in the middle, yet still manages to grip your heartstrings.

Anderson has proven time and again that she has the ability to play many different roles. From science fiction icon, to the Iron Lady and a sex therapist, Anderson shines once again on the big screen. Of course having Issacs to play off of helps. The duo has strong chemistry that make you truly believe they are so in love with one another that they are willing to do anything to show it. This type of story has been told on screen before. It even has the interesting characters that our protagonists encounter along the way. However, that doesn’t prevent it from being entertaining.

Be prepared for The Salt Path to take you on an emotional journey, filled with heartache and hope.  It’s the underlying love story between two people that never give up that truly makes it inspirational however. It might just make you look at your life a little bit closer and have you  question yourself on what your definition of home is.

While Roderick has only been writing movie reviews for a relatively short time, he's been a fan of film for as long as he can remember. It's a love affair that started when he saw Star Wars at a drive-in theatre in Kitchener when he was four years old. In the past decade he's fulfilled his dream of interviewing celebrities, attending red carpets events at festivals such as TIFF and writing reviews for outlets such as Realstylenetwork.com. He's always on the hunt for the next big thing to hit the screen.
