It’s a simple fact, not all movies are made for all people. Fight or Flight is one of those movies. It’s an action-packed popcorn movie that men will enjoy more than women, more so when a group of them get together to suspend their disbelief and watch a little violent action. Or maybe, a lot. Watching it alone just won’t cut it, nor will going into it expecting a realistic film. So shut your mind off, maybe have a drink or two, and enjoy the chaos you are about to watch.
Lucas (Josh Hartnett) is a former secret service agent on the run. His past, however, finally catches up to him. And gets into action one last time with the promise of clearing his name if he does what his former agency wants. His goal is to get on a plane in Bangkok heading to San Francisco and discover the identity of the mysterious Ghost. ‘Ghost’ is a terrorist mastermind, the recent cause of international headlines. Not only must he secure Ghost and bring them to justice, but he must keep them alive while doing so. Unfortunately that won’t be easy. That’s because the plane is full with assassins looking to kill not only Ghost for a large bounty, but him as well.
Josh Hartnett’s career has been decidedly hit or miss. From starring in Hollywood blockbusters to absolutely stinkers, he’s done it all. Fight or Flight more than likely will be one of the latter, but he’s good in it regardless. He knows how to take a punch, but does an even better job of leading the fight. You want to see him win, but the movie doesn’t make it easy to see anyway that he will be able to. The problem with the movie isn’t with the acting however, it’s with the story itself.
Having an action movie take place for the majority of time inside an airplane is ludicrous. After all, there are only so many places you can have a fight, without everyone on board knowing something is going on. Even if the plane is a little roomier than your basic flight, you’d very quickly run out of space. The movies is very similar to 2022’s Bullet Train, but at least in that film there was a little more breathing room. It’s not just the location either, it’s the over all story arch that is more than a little bonkers. Still, if you can suspend your disbelief you are sure to have a good time. In the right company.
Fight or Flight will not be a hit at the theatre, but it could live on as a cult classic and have a much larger life at home. Don’t expect a deep film. Don’t expect surprises and characters who aren’t common film clichés, and you’ll enjoy it just fine. So sit back, call a few friends to come over, order a pizza and crack a beer. And have a evening with the boys when Fight of Flight comes out at home.
