When you hear the name Stephen King chills probably start crawling down your spine. It’s an unfortunate reaction, because that means people who don’t like horror probably have never watched some of his non-horror films. And if they have, they probably don’t know it’s based on a Stephen King story. Some of these include Stand by Me, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Now, we can add The Life of Chuck to the lisThe Life of Chuck starts at the end of Chuck’s life. He’s 39 years old, and dying of a brain tumor. Chuck however appears on billboards and commercials, celebrating his life. From there the movie moves in reverse, a unique way of showing someone’s life, and giving meaning to everything.
There is no real star of The Life of Chuck. There are stars in each chapter, but there isn’t much overlap. Still, the actors in each part of the narrative really shined bright. It’s the story though that really gets to you. Is your life worth it? Have you done things that make you happy? As human beings, do we really matter in the grand scheme of things? By the time the movie ends, you will be asking yourself these questions and more. It doesn’t give you answers, but it does give you a whole lot to think about.
The Life of Chuck won’t scare you. It will have you leaving the theatre with a smile on your face however.
