The question of should we have children, or should we not to have children, is a decision many couples struggle with. Most couples struggle with figuring out if the choices they made about important matters were the right ones. Babies, a new film starring Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick, is focused on that very decision.
Babies almost feels like a personal letter from both Rogen and Kendrick. After all, both have told their stories several times as to why they’ve decided to remain childless. It wouldn’t be surprising if some of the topics that come up are their own thoughts or experiences. It might also explain why Rogen and Kendrick work so well together. The duo’s chemistry is strong, and they seem in sync in every scene they are in together. Having the same beliefs would definitely help with that.
The story isn’t just about whether to have children or not however, but it is the main focus. Where the story loses steam is is during the subplots that don’t quite fit into the theme. For example, her mother is dying, and Kendrick convinces her father that it’s all right to go out on a date while his wife is still alive. This subplout belongs to another movie.
Babies is a sweet, comedic film that gives viewers a definitive answer as to why many people make life decisions the way they do. It’s a film that works, and is a fun option for couples to enjoy together.
