How far would you be willing to go to preserve your youth and heal imperfections in the way you look? Would you be willing to try an experimental treatment that a secretive company provides that offers extraordinary results? Actor/director Max Minghella takes a close look at such a treatment in his latest film Shell.
Samantha (Elisabeth Moss) is a washed up actress looking for her last chance at stardom. Unfortunately for her casting directors look at her as being too old to star in anything ever again, but thankfully there is an option. Shell is a company run by Zoe Shannon (Kate Hudson). It offers a cosmetic surgery alternative that helps people stay young.
Shell is the perfect vehicle for Moss. The looks on her face always seems to show her distrust of the people around her, which is what the character needs. Hudson is perfectly cast as well, and slides into the role of the conceited company owner almost too easily. The best thing about the film however is the film is a comedy that somehow still manages to bring the chills. It’s absurd fun that gives audiences a little bit of everything. It’s also a great social commentary on the way we look at beauty in today’s society.
Shell has a little bit of everything, which fans of different genres will enjoy. While there is a little gore, and a few jumps, even film fans who don’t particularly like horror should have a blast with it.
