There are all types of scary movies, and not all of them scare everyone. Some scary movies can even make us laugh. Ick unfortunately is neither scary, nor is it funny, even though it tries really hard to do both. There are lower budget b movies that do a better job.
Hank (Brandon Routh) had a bright future ahead of him. He was a high-school heartthrob, the quarterback of the football team, and was dating the head cheerleader. Then everything started going downhill, and he lost it all. While it sounds like a typical loser-turns-his-life-around story, there is more to it. The town, you see, has been invaded by an alien parasite that lives underground.
At times it feels like it wants to be a comedy, other times it attempts to be scary, and yet it also feels like it wants to be a somewhat serious drama where a man who loses everything suddenly discovers he may have fathered a daughter. The special effects on the alien parasite are a mess as well. It looks like a cheaper version of the parasite from Venom. To make it even worse, the acting is over the top cornball, which makes it very hard to watch.
Ick very well may become a cult classic, simply because it is that bad, but you are better off watching some classic Hammer films instead. If you do chose to see it, you might feel like you need to wash the ick off you afterwards.
