Some movies can be hard to review due to their content. And Argentine director Demián Rugna’s latest film When Evil Lurks is one of them. It follows the story of brothers Pedro (Ezequiel Rodríguez) and Jimmy (Demián Salomón). They discover a possessed man living in a nearby farmhouse and decide to rid their town of the evil he represents before the rot festers even further. Unfortunately for them, he manages to escape from their clutches, triggering a bloodbath of evil along the way.
When Evil Lurks is a heart racing horror film that doesn’t let up. Ever. It starts your adrenaline pumping early, and from there it delivers a series of shocks that makes you want to turn away. And yet, it prevents you from doing so because you desperately need to know what happens next. It goes to to places other horror movies are afraid to go. It does this in such a realistic way that you are scarred from the experience. Even fans of horror movies who have been numbed over the years may be hard pressed to sit through this film without a sense of revulsion and fear.
Whatever you do, don’t take this review lightly. While the film can be enjoyable, it can’t be stressed enough that it’s not for everyone. And even if you do like the story, and how everything is presented, you might want to turn away from time to time. We won’t think less of you if you do.
