There are movies that refuse to conform to the standard practice of what people think movies are. And these are usually some of the most divisive movies to be released. Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World is the most insanely over the top stylized. It’s also an action thriller that breaks the fourth wall. Everything is popping off the screen, the action is nonstop. And the plot is chaotic, packing twists and turns that the audience will not entirely see coming.
The movie focuses on deaf and mute Boy (Bill Skarsgard). His family brutally killed by tyrant and leader of the free world, Melanie Van Der Koy (Michelle Dockery). He manages to escape into the forest and a mysterious man appears to be his Mentor (Yayan Ruhian) and teaches him to repress his childish thoughts and to an extent his imagination. The Mentor trains him to be a killing machine so he can fulfil his own personal goal – to kill Melanie Van Der Koy.
The overall aesthetic of the film is one of the strongest things it has going for it. It separates it from being any other revenge movie with a martial arts aspect to it. The hyper stylized take that Moritz Mohr uses in Boy Kills World is certainly not for everyone. But those that enjoy chaos and colourful dystopian madness will find themselves overjoyed with Boy Kills World. This is especially true if they like everything doused in a healthy coat of blood.
