Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials begins in Spain but it mostly takes place in the quaint British countryside. It’s a place where the aristocracy hosts parties, like Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce). Well, she’s not the host but her mother, the house-poor Lady Catterham (Helena Bonham Carter) is. One of those parties gets her dinner. That dinner date is with Gerry Wade (Corey Mylchreest), her late brother’s buddy from WWI. But he dies under her roof, everyone else chalking it up to an accidental death or suicide after shell shock.
Maybe Bundle’s mourning but maybe she’s right about suspecting that someone murdered him. She enlists the help of a friend, Ronnie Deveruax (Nabhaan Rizwan), who also attended the party. They meet in town and notice a man (Martin Freeman) suspiciously following the both of them around. A woman of strong will, she drives to London, Scotland Yard specifically, to ramp up the investigation. In doing so, she drives to see Ronny at the side of the road, shot and bleeding.
This is the second murder mystery coming in with a bang in Netflix’ early 2026 catalogue. This miniseries is also coming out a week after His & Hers, another miniseries with a British original source. There’s nothing wrong with Americanizing and diversifying novels. But Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials keeps its original period and setting while thankfully finding some aesthetic innovation within. The POV shot of the clocks overlooking Gerry’s body is pretty cool as it incorporates visual movement. But it also reminds viewers of the human element of crime as Bundle mourns Gerry’s death.
Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials came out almost a century ago but Netflix only gave media one episode, which is actually a smart move to keep even us non book readers in the dark. Regardless, one episode is enough to show Bundle’s character who starts out as an emotionally immature character. Having to mourn her brother from the war, life still has more in store for her. She quickly evolves from that immaturity, sublimating that into someone with a dogged determination for the truth.
Even from one episode, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials shows its actors having great chemistry together. It helps that there’s already a wry humour in the atmosphere, which is natural for British characters. McKenna-Bruce shows herself as capable of holding her own with fellow actors who are more seasoned. Her scenes with Bonham Carter and Rizwan exudes a lived in fictionalized world of delightful complementary opposites. And of course, she’s great on her own, bringing out the emotions and wit of a woman of the Roaring 1920s.
