“It’s a brave thing people do when they fall in love. Someone is going to get hurt.”
There is a magical energy when it comes to love that seems unmatched by any other feeling on Earth. I don’t just mean romantic love, but the endearment that two people share when you can be your most authentic self. I am lucky enough to share this kind of genuine love with multiple people in my life, and watching this documentary on the life of Alan and Adrianne St-George showed me the true power behind this immeasurable, extraordinary love story.
Alan and Adrianne’s story is based on their eccentric lifestyle, which they shared when building their dream home: a castle on a hill in Illinois, Indiana. Together, they curated an experimental, vibrant experience that allowed them both to see the world in a new light. For Alan, it was his first opportunity to see a world so different from the one he grew up in, and for Adrianne, it was the continuation of enjoying this magical, fairy-tale-like experience.
Unfortunately, as all beautiful love stories go, this document is also based on the grief and discovery of the new life Alan must transcend after the tragic loss of Adrianne. Adrianne and the Castle is the most raw and beautiful depiction of what life feels like after extreme loss and the power our past and present relationships have on us as we move forward with our lives. For Alan, the life he shared with Adrianne will forever impact his choices throughout time – which is really the magic of authenticity in love. It will touch your heart and remind you to tell the people you love how much they affect you, as we never know how long we get to share this magic.
